In 1867, Reno resident Eli Francovich began an annual holiday tradition of making egg nog from a family recipe he remembered from his native home of Petrovac, Yugoslavia. Five generations and more than 130 years later, the Francoviches continue the ritual, but now make the holiday nog available for purchase in select grocery stores and specialty food and liquor stores.
The recipe was perfected in the 1800’s as a holiday drink the Francoviches served and gave to guests at the “Wine House”, their bar/restaurant casino in downtown Reno. The recipe remains a family secret and Sam Francovich has the responsibility of ensuring that the dairy products, spices and liquors used are of the highest quality, ensuring the unique blend is consistent with what has been made in past generations.
